SCHOOL'S OUT! SCIENCE ENRICHMENT

Hop on the Magic Science Van during the upcoming school holiday. We'll conduct some cool experiments and be introduced to a variety of science-based careers. You'll get to meet science practitioners and see how science helps solve real-world problems.

With activities exploring ecology, anatomy, medicine, and nutrition, you'll end the day with a newfound love of science and be able to better understand the scientific process.

Drop off and pick up is at Appalachian State University's Reich College of Education. Detailed directions and instructions will be emailed to you after sign up.

EARLY RELEASE SCIENCE ENRICHMENT ADVENTURES

Make the most of Watauga County School's October Early Release Days by joining us on the Magic Science Van on Oct 24th & 25th 2019!

Each afternoon will feature engaging science enrichment activities including a trip to the Catawba Science Museum and exciting science experiments.

Young scientists will have the opportunity to meet a variety of "Science Heroes" to learn about how they gained their science super powers and why studying science is so fun and cool! Science super heroes will include Veterinarians, Ecologists, Physicists, and more!

12:15pm Hardin Park student participants will be picked up from school (as a car rider) in the Magic Science Van

6:00pm students will be picked up by parents/guardians from: Rocky Knob Picnic Shelter, 285 Mountain Bike Way, Boone

WHAT TO BRING
Everything is provided! A healthy afternoon snack will be shared at 3:30 each day (Please note any allergies or dietary restrictions within the application).

SCIENCE, ART, & ADVENTURE DAY CAMP

Provide your kiddo(s) with one last FUN (and educational) adventure before school starts.
​Exploring the best sites the High Country has to offer, we'll learn about a variety of science topics and create art in a fun, positive, and supportive atmosphere.

​Our days will be packed full with all sorts of fun and learning! A sampling of planned activities are listed below:

Garden Photography •  How to use the library workshop • Renewable energy tour & exploration • Planetarium & Aquarium at the Catawba Science Center • Understanding velocity, gravity, and force at the Whistle Pig Zip Line • View a stunt airplane • Art Club at the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum • Valle Crucis Park Ecology Scavenger Hunt • Apple Hill Farm Tour • Learn about animal characteristics and threats at the May Wildlife Rehabilitation Center • Mountain Beach play at Wildcat Lake • Mine and identify gems • And Much more!

WHAT TO BRING
You know Boone, so be prepared for all weather!
  • Wear comfortable play clothes
  • Of course, we'll aim for getting in a creek EVERYDAY so bring a change of clothes
  • Towel 
  • River/water shoes (if you have them)
  • Water bottle
  • Two snacks
  • Lunch
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat (optional)
We'll be exploring something new each day so you will be given a head's up about what to expect, when to bring a swimsuit, and when to bring pants, etc.
DATES & TIMES
Camp starts and ends each day at the Watauga Public Library, 140 Queen Street, Boone
  • Drop off @ 9:00am - 9:30am (please arrive as close to 9am as possible)***
  • Pick up @ 5:00pm - 5:30pm (please arrive as close to 5pm as possible)
